This week’s “Meet the Team” features Anthony Roberts, who works out in the field as a Lead Carpenter for Richard Aitken Builders LLC. Anthony and his crew recently completed the finishing touches on a gorgeous traditional style home on Oceana in the Loveladies section of Long Beach Township on LBI. The house was designed by leading LBI Architect Jay Madden. Keep your eyes open for the full portfolio of photos to be featured this upcoming month in our project gallery!
How long have you been in the construction industry?
I have been in the construction industry for 35 years. I get enjoyment and satisfaction from creating and seeing the finished product.
What do you like most about working at Richard Aitken Builders LLC?
My job is both challenging and rewarding. There is always something new to tackle. In addition, our work is unmatched by any other builder in the area.
How long have you worked for Richard Aitken Builders LLC? Did you start as a Lead Carpenter? On average, how many guys are on your crew?
I have worked for Richard Aitken Builders LLC for 15 years. I started as a carpenter for the first week and was then promoted to Lead Carpenter. I have a crew of four for our current job.
What do you like most about working on Long Beach Island?
I enjoy having both the ocean views and bay views while I work. We sometimes even spot dolphins in the ocean and seals on the beach.
What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?
I enjoy boating, motorcycles, vacationing, and spending time with my family.
What did you enjoy most about building the new home on Oceana?
The architecture of the home and the layout were very unique. We incorporated innovative ideas and tremendous detail to create a one-of-a-kind custom home.
How long did the construction process take? Briefly describe the new home construction process.
The project took approximately 10 months. We started by tearing down the old home and then we drove in the pilings. After we framed the home and put on the roof, we worked on the interior process such as plumbing, electrical, sheetrock, etc. Regarding the exterior, we put in place windows, siding, and doors. Everything was carefully laid out, step-by-step, until completion.
Is there anything that makes this project on Oceana unique to other Aitken projects?
The architectural detail and layout sets this project apart from any other.
Were there any challenges and how did your crew overcome these challenges?
The amount of detail that went into this home was the most challenging aspect of the project. We all had to pay close attention to these details and practice patience while working on it. Frustration does not get you anywhere.
During your career with Richard Aitken Builders LLC, is there one project that stands out to you as being your favorite?
One of my first projects with Richard Aitken Builders is the one that stands out most in my mind. It is Jeff Rich’s house located in Loveladies. It was a new home that we did the finish work for and this work was being done around the time of September 2001. That oceanfront project was one of the biggest that I worked on early in my career at Richard Aitken Builders LLC.
