For this week’s Meet the Team we feature, Debbie Mattson, our Operations Manager here at Aitken Builders. Debbie is our client contact for large projects. She ensures that our customers are 100% satisfied with the completion of their project and their experience working with us is enjoyable. We are lucky to have her here as a part of our team.
How long have you been in the construction industry? I’ve been in the construction industry for over 27 years.
What do you like most about working at Richard Aitken Builders? There are so many things at the top of my list, it is hard to pick just one. I’m always impressed by how caring the company is towards its customers and employees. We strive to do the right thing for everyone.
How long have you been with Richard Aitken Builders? Close to six years.
What you do like most about working on Long Beach Island? The challenges of building on an island are unique and I enjoy ensuring our customers’ homes are taken care of to their utmost satisfaction.
What do you enjoy doing in your spare time? Spending time with family and enjoying the outdoors (biking, swimming, hiking, etc.)
Describe how the company has changed since you first started. We have grown our staff and client base and have made many changes to continually meet our customers’ needs.
Please describe the responsibilities and positions within the Operations Department that you oversee. My department handles the large construction projects from additions, renovations to new homes. We are responsible to ensure we complete the work on time and to meet and exceed the homeowner’s expectations.
What are some of the most important responsibilities you’ve had working at Aitken? My most important responsibility is ensuring we continue a great relationship with our clients. I enjoy working with our client through the process to ensure the construction project they have entrusted us with is stress free for them. We have the most caring and knowledgeable customer base I’ve encountered during my years in construction and thoroughly enjoy working with them.
How would you describe your management style and approach? I have excellent staff which allows me to oversee their work which provides me the opportunity to focus on the client. I like to tackle challenges and find ways to do things others think we cannot. I’m lucky to have a staff that supports me and the company in these projects.
Describe some positive feedback you have received from our customers on why they enjoy working with the Aitken team? I have received countless positive feedback from our customers over the years but two recent ones come to mind. One client has told me she could never own her home on LBI if it weren’t for ARA and the service she receives. She has shared that sentiment with her friends and family. The other client just completed a interior renovation this past spring. When I introduced myself to the homeowner at the beginning of the job, I stated my job was to ensure we exceeded their expectations when we were finished. The Monday after their first weekend stay at their completed home, I was told we more than exceeded their expectations, which they didn’t think was possible. We made the construction experience interesting and fun and they loved working with us.
